Job Overview: The Driver position is located in the Resident Coordinator's Office in Chad and reports directly to the Head of the Resident Coordinator's Office/Team Leader. The primary function of this role is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel, as well as the delivery of documents and goods between various UN offices and external institutions such as ministries and embassies. The Driver is expected to maintain a high level of professionalism while dealing with officials and visitors, ensuring that all driving and logistical tasks are performed with diligence and care. This role also involves minor vehicle maintenance, record-keeping of trips and vehicle usage, and adherence to safety regulations, particularly in the context of potential accidents. The Driver must demonstrate good judgment and be adaptable to the varying demands of the position, contributing to the overall mission of the UN in Chad.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's responsibilities include safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and, in some cases, for the transport of general cargo or specialized hazardous goods. The Driver will make regular deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and other institutions, perform minor purchases, and collect urgent items from local suppliers as needed. Additionally, the Driver will facilitate customs and immigration formalities for official personnel at the airport, maintain the assigned vehicles by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, and perform minor repairs as necessary. The Driver is also responsible for logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and other vehicle maintenance records. In the event of an accident, the Driver must follow the required procedures and regulations. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid National Driver's License and a clean driving record. A valid defensive driving certificate is desirable. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; however, a relevant first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience.
