Job Overview:
The position of Lead Carbon Market Consultant is integral to the UNDP Mongolia's initiative titled 'Advancing carbon market readiness in Mongolia.' This role is designed for a national consultant who will provide essential technical support to the project team. The consultant will be expected to leverage their expertise in carbon markets to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies that enhance Mongolia's readiness for carbon trading. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector entities, and civil society organizations, to ensure that the project objectives are met effectively. The initial contract will span 160 working days over a period of 9 months, during which the consultant will be responsible for delivering high-quality outputs that align with the project's goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lead Carbon Market Consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting thorough assessments of Mongolia's current carbon market landscape; developing strategic frameworks and action plans to enhance carbon market readiness; providing technical guidance and support to project stakeholders; facilitating workshops and training sessions to build capacity among local stakeholders; collaborating with international experts and organizations to share best practices; preparing detailed reports and documentation on project progress and outcomes; ensuring compliance with UNDP policies and procedures; and actively participating in project meetings and discussions to provide insights and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, economics, or a related field, with a specific focus on carbon markets and climate change mitigation strategies. Proven experience in project management, particularly in the context of carbon market initiatives, is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and policies will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in environmental science, economics, public policy, or a related discipline is required for this position. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field will be given preference. Continuous professional development in carbon markets or related areas will also be advantageous.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in carbon markets, climate change policy, or sustainable development projects. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar entities, is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a proven track record of successfully managing projects and delivering results in complex environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Mongolian is also required to effectively engage with local stakeholders and ensure the successful implementation of project activities. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered a plus, particularly if they are relevant to the region.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is set for 9 months, with a total of 160 working days. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during this period. The role is open to national candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
