Job Overview: The Agricultural Livelihoods & Climate-Smart Agriculture (Economic Recovery) Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership for DRC Syria’s agricultural livelihoods and climate-smart agriculture programming. This role is primarily focused on DRC (70%) with additional support to the Syria Community Consortium (30%). The Coordinator operates as a senior technical expert, guiding design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, localization of global frameworks, capacity development, and scalable model development. The role emphasizes collaboration with financial institutions and stakeholders to strengthen resilience through the agriculture sector, ultimately promoting self-reliance among the affected communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership and Strategy (DRC – LoE 70%): Lead the design and implementation of DRC’s agriculture and climate-smart livelihoods portfolio, focusing on regenerative farming, agroecology, and efficient resource management. Translate Labour Market Assessment findings into actionable strategies and provide technical oversight on agricultural input support and smallholder farmer engagement. Develop training modules on improved agronomic practices and support collaboration with agro-dealers and cooperatives. Contribute to resource mobilization and proposal development, ensuring integration of environmental safeguards and gender inclusion into programming.
Consortium Engagement and Strategic Support (SCC – LoE 30%): Provide technical assistance to SCC members in developing agriculture and market system interventions. Lead initiatives on Market Systems Development and agricultural finance, fostering partnerships with microfinance institutions. Advise on credit models supporting entrepreneurship and cooperatives.
Capacity Strengthening and Learning: Design and deliver training modules for DRC and SCC staff, mentor national staff, and support monitoring and evaluation of interventions. Document lessons learned and good practices for strategic planning and donor engagement.
Representation, Coordination, and External Engagement: Represent DRC and SCC in coordination fora, develop partnerships with government and private sector actors, and contribute to advocacy efforts.
Other: Raise compliance issues, coordinate with communications teams, and provide regular updates to management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of 6 years of experience in agricultural development, climate-smart programming, or market systems in humanitarian or development settings. They should demonstrate experience with microfinance and inclusive financial services, along with a proven track record in designing and implementing market-based agricultural programs. Strong communication, facilitation, and analytical skills are essential, as well as the ability to manage high workloads and deadlines efficiently. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability are also important, along with experience in international humanitarian work and team management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in agricultural development, climate-smart programming, or market systems, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts. Candidates should have a strong understanding of Market Systems Development and value chain approaches, as well as experience in building partnerships with private sector and financial institutions.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while fluency in Arabic is desirable for this role.
