Job Overview: The Communication Assistant position at WFP is crucial for enhancing the visibility of the organization's operations in Mauritania. The Communication Assistant will be responsible for creating and disseminating engaging digital content, managing social media platforms, and producing multimedia materials that highlight WFP's work and advocate for the needs of beneficiaries. Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing WFP Mauritania's social media accounts, producing and publishing content that reflects communication priorities and key messages, developing and implementing short- and long-term social media strategies, identifying trends and opportunities for creative content formats, ensuring efficient use of the allocated budget for social media activities, creating engaging content tailored to different platforms, designing visual communication materials in line with WFP's branding guidelines, capturing high-quality photos and videos during field activities, editing dynamic videos for social media and other communication channels, collaborating with field teams to coordinate multimedia content production, analyzing social media metrics to inform content creation and strategy, moderating comments on social media posts, and managing crisis communication on social media in collaboration with the media team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma, with a post-secondary certificate in a relevant field being desirable. A minimum of 5 years of experience in communication is required, demonstrating the ability to apply communication techniques and perform standard communication tasks in line with WFP's operational standards. Candidates should have experience in adapting communication messages to suit various audiences and contexts, as well as a proven track record of effective communication in a professional setting.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a secondary school diploma. However, candidates with a post-secondary certificate in a relevant field, such as communications, public relations, or media studies, are preferred. This educational background will provide the foundational knowledge necessary for executing the responsibilities of the Communication Assistant role effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in the field of communication. This experience should include a demonstrated ability to utilize communication techniques effectively and to perform communication tasks that meet WFP's operational standards. Candidates should have a history of successfully communicating messages to diverse audiences and adapting strategies based on situational needs.
Languages: Fluency in French (level C) is mandatory, along with an intermediate knowledge of English (level B). Knowledge of local languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders and beneficiaries in Mauritania.
