The CMS Secretariat, located in Bonn, Germany, supports various intergovernmental instruments aimed at migratory species conservation. This includes two regional agreements, the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of European Populations of Bats (EUROBATS), which also have their secretariats co-located with the CMS Secretariat. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) plays a crucial role in addressing environmental issues globally and regionally, coordinating the development of environmental policy consensus and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community. Job Overview:
The position of Report Writer is critical for the effective documentation and communication of the proceedings of significant international meetings related to the conservation of migratory species. The selected candidates will be responsible for capturing accurate records of discussions, decisions, and outcomes during the 57th Meeting of the Standing Committee, the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15), and the 58th Meeting of the Standing Committee. The role requires the ability to synthesize complex discussions into clear, concise reports that reflect the main elements of the agenda items and the decisions made. The report writers will work closely with the CMS Secretariat, receiving relevant documents and materials to aid in their reporting duties. They are expected to produce daily reports during the COP and a complete draft report within one month after the closure of COP15, incorporating feedback from the Secretariat to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Attend and service the meetings, taking detailed notes of the debates and decisions made. 2) Collaborate with the Secretariat to obtain all relevant documents, including speeches and agenda items, prior to the meetings. 3) Produce daily reports during COP15, summarizing discussions and decisions, and ensuring they reflect the agenda's main elements. 4) Utilize notes and, if necessary, audio recordings to draft the first report of the meeting. 5) Ensure that reports include necessary annexes, such as documents from working groups established during the meetings. 6) Submit the final report to the Secretariat for review and comments as soon as possible after each meeting, adhering to the one-month deadline for the complete draft. 7) Revise the reports based on feedback received from the Secretariat and submit a second draft for final approval.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, or Environmental Science, along with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in the same fields with at least 9 years of experience in environmental conservation may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree. Previous experience working with a non-governmental organization (NGO) is mandatory, as is experience in report writing for international environmental meetings. Familiarity with CMS Family meetings is considered desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Master’s degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, or Environmental Science. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree in these fields, they must have a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience in environmental conservation to qualify for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 7 years in relevant fields for candidates with a Master’s degree. For those with a first-level university degree, at least 9 years of experience is necessary. This experience should include work with NGOs and a strong background in report writing for international environmental meetings, demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate complex information.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, ensuring that the report writers can accurately capture and convey the discussions and decisions made during the meetings. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not specified as a requirement.
