Job Overview: The Education Project Manager will play a crucial role in implementing the Education programme/project(s) portfolio specifically within the Rakhine Area Programme in Sittwe, Myanmar. This position is responsible for ensuring quality assurance, mentoring, training, and capacity building of staff involved in the education projects. The manager will lead coordination efforts and actively contribute to advocacy, programme design, and proposal development aimed at securing funding for the Education Core Competency (CC). The role requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that all activities align with NRC policies and donor requirements while addressing the needs of the most vulnerable beneficiaries.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Project Manager will have a wide range of responsibilities including: managing project staff and ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures; contributing to the development of country, area, and education strategies; coordinating and managing the implementation of education projects, including activities, budgets, and documentation; providing technical direction to ensure high-quality project delivery; preparing regular progress reports for the Area Programme Manager and Education Specialist; ensuring that projects effectively target beneficiaries in need of protection; developing and managing project budgets in collaboration with the Area Programme Manager; facilitating capacity building for project staff; liaising with local authorities and stakeholders; and contributing to the implementation of Safe and Inclusive Programming Minimum Standards. Specific responsibilities also include designing new proposals, conducting assessments, leading monitoring and evaluation efforts, and representing NRC in various coordination meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior-level project implementation role within a humanitarian or recovery context. Technical expertise in education, particularly in non-formal education, first line response, youth programming, and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support is essential. A degree in Humanities, International Relations, or Social Sciences is required. Additionally, candidates should have documented results related to the responsibilities of the position, knowledge of their own leadership skills, and fluency in English, both written and verbal.
Educational Background: The position requires a degree in Humanities, International Relations, or Social Sciences. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the specific challenges faced in the education sector within crisis contexts.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in project implementation, particularly in complex and volatile environments. Experience in shaping and scaling education responses in emergencies, including conducting assessments and developing response strategies, is highly valued. Familiarity with humanitarian standards such as INEE and Sphere is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and verbal. Proficiency in the Myanmar language is desired but not required. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the region may also be advantageous.
Additional Notes: This position is based in the Sittwe Area Office, Myanmar, and is open only to Myanmar Nationals. The contract duration is for 1 year, with a salary grade of 8 on NRC’s national salary scale. The role may require travel up to 40% to NRC operating locations.
