Job Overview:
The position of Principal Driver is crucial for supporting the operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Burkina Faso. The incumbent will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of senior WFP officials, United Nations personnel, and official visitors. This role is essential in offices where multiple drivers are employed and where transportation missions are numerous and complex. The Principal Driver must ensure that all transportation services are conducted in a professional manner, adhering to safety protocols and providing a high level of customer service. The role also involves maintaining the assigned vehicles in good working condition and assisting with administrative tasks related to vehicle management. The Principal Driver will play a key role in facilitating the smooth operation of WFP's activities in the region, ensuring that all personnel can travel safely and efficiently to their destinations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe and professional transportation for senior WFP officials, UN personnel, and official visitors, ensuring their comfort and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security during transit.
  • Maintain a high standard of driving, demonstrating caution and professionalism at all times.
  • Keep the assigned vehicles clean, well-maintained, and in good working order, including keeping accurate records of fuel consumption.
  • Assist in planning preventive and corrective maintenance in coordination with the Fleet Management team.
  • Welcome official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, providing basic assistance with visa and customs formalities to ensure a smooth and secure transition to authorized destinations.
  • Maintain a detailed log of vehicle maintenance and report daily mechanical status to the supervisor to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption, supporting accurate accounting and cost-effectiveness.
  • Adhere to all relevant rules and regulations regarding field deliveries and report any incidents or issues to the supervisor immediately to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Perform simple administrative tasks as needed, such as filing, photocopying, or archiving, including handling mail and paying phone bills or other expenses to provide administrative support.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Must possess a high school diploma (BAC). Hold a valid driver's license (categories A1, B, C). Having a category D license is an advantage. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, including at least 2 years in an international or humanitarian organization. Additional Skills: Excellent driving skills for light and heavy vehicles, including armored vehicles in challenging conditions (unpaved roads, remote areas, crisis situations, etc.). In-depth knowledge of automotive mechanics. Proficiency in fleet tracking tools (radio, GPS, fuel management applications). Good understanding of traffic laws and road safety regulations.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education and hold a valid driver's license. A high school diploma (BAC) is required, and additional qualifications related to vehicle operation and maintenance are advantageous. A valid driver's license in categories A1, B, and C is mandatory, while a category D license is considered a plus.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of professional driving experience, with at least two years spent working in an international or humanitarian context. This experience should demonstrate the ability to navigate complex driving environments and adhere to safety protocols while providing transportation services to high-ranking officials and visitors.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, and knowledge of local languages is considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written forms is essential for this role, especially when interacting with officials and visitors.

The contract is for a fixed term of one year, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and performance. This position is classified at the GS3 level, indicating a junior to mid-level role within the organization.
