Job Overview:
The position of Consultant for Family Farming and Food Supply is integral to the FAO's mission in Brazil, particularly in enhancing the capacities of family farmers and contributing to poverty reduction and rural revitalization. The consultant will be responsible for monitoring and mapping permanent and open markets across Brazil, developing methodologies to support monitoring processes, and designing marketing strategies for urban and peri-urban farmers. This role aims to strengthen family farming and improve public policies related to short food supply circuits, thereby promoting inclusive and sustainable commercialization channels for local communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will engage in various tasks including:
  • Participating in initial and periodic alignment meetings with the SEAB/MDA team to ensure strategic alignment of work.
  • Conducting surveys to gather information on permanent and open fairs across Brazil.
  • Preparing and presenting SEAB/MDA monitoring methodologies in collaboration with Federal Superintendencies of Agrarian Development.
  • Conducting studies to develop marketing proposals for urban and peri-urban farmers and their economic organizations.
  • Ensuring compliance with the stipulated stages and deadlines for the products required under this assignment.
  • Actively participating in meetings related to the consultancy execution to enhance alignment and effectiveness throughout the contract.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a University Degree in Human Sciences or Agricultural Sciences. Additionally, they should have a minimum of 8 years of professional experience related to food supply in family farming, with specific experience working with family farmers, traditional peoples, agrarian reform settlers, and urban and peri-urban agriculture. A working knowledge of both English and Portuguese is essential, and candidates must be nationals of Brazil or residents with a valid work permit.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a University Degree in Human Sciences or Agricultural Sciences. Furthermore, candidates should have completed a specialization (minimum of 3 years) or a Master’s degree in a relevant field, which would enhance their qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 8 years in the field of food supply related to family farming.
