Job Overview:
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme at UNDP is designed to equip outstanding young leaders with the necessary skills and experience to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a meaningful impact in the world. This position offers young professionals a unique opportunity to gain exposure to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development while serving as an entry point into the United Nations system. JPOs will work closely with experienced UNDP staff, supporting the design and implementation of UNDP's programs at various levels, including headquarters, regional, and country offices. The role emphasizes professional and personal growth, with structured guidance, feedback, and access to learning opportunities. JPOs are expected to aspire to a global career, particularly in field-based organizations that support national development agendas. They will engage in various learning and development activities, including participation in induction courses, access to travel and training allocations, and networking opportunities with peers and senior colleagues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The JPO on Climate Change will provide technical support for the monitoring and implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) in Vietnam. Key responsibilities include assisting the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) with monitoring JETP implementation, compiling and analyzing project data, and presenting findings to stakeholders. The JPO will also support the JETP Secretariat by preparing technical briefs, facilitating strategic dialogues, and contributing to investment analysis. Additionally, the role involves providing technical inputs to UNDP's broader Climate and Energy portfolio, promoting knowledge management, and advocating for UNDP's visibility in energy transition initiatives. The incumbent will perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of two years of relevant experience in climate change, energy transition, or related fields, with a master's degree, or four years of experience with a bachelor's degree. Demonstrated knowledge of international best practices in energy transition and climate policy is required, along with experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation. Familiarity with multilateral organizations, particularly UNDP, is desired, as is experience working in Vietnam or Southeast Asia. Proficiency in standard office software is also preferred.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences, Energy, Transport, Economics, Development, Public Policy, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree (bachelor's degree) in the aforementioned areas, combined with two years of qualifying experience, will also be considered in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience for candidates with a master's degree or four years for those with a bachelor's degree. This experience should be in fields related to climate change, energy transition, or similar areas, demonstrating a solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities in these sectors.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, encompassing writing, speaking, and presentation skills. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required for this position.

Additional Notes:
The successful candidate is expected to start within one month of the recruitment outcome. The role is funded by the government of Denmark for one year, with the possibility of a further 12-month extension subject to organizational needs, funding availability, and performance.
