Job Posting Organization:
The FJDI (Foundation for Justice, Development and Integrity) is an organization dedicated to working with children, youth, women, and communities in northern Uganda. Its mission is to promote justice, development, and economic recovery in a region that has faced significant challenges due to conflict. Established to address the long-term impacts of the conflict in northern Uganda, FJDI advocates for the redress of human rights violations and atrocities committed during this period. The organization implements sustainable development initiatives and promotes economic empowerment through various livelihood programs. FJDI operates with a holistic approach to justice, emphasizing that judicial mechanisms for redress must be complemented by development and economic empowerment efforts for victims. The organization has received funding from notable entities such as the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, and the Education, Justice, and Memory Network (EdJAM), enabling it to carry out impactful projects aimed at strengthening peace-building, post-conflict recovery, and governance in Uganda.

Job Overview:
The position of Graphic Designer at FJDI is crucial for the finalization of the organization's annual report for 202
  • The selected volunteer will be responsible for enhancing the visual appeal of the report, which has already been drafted. This role involves inserting relevant photographs, designing both the cover and back page, and applying professional graphic design techniques to ensure the report is visually engaging and effectively communicates the organization's achievements and goals. The designer will have the flexibility to use graphic design software of their choice, allowing for creativity and personal style to shine through in the final product. This task not only contributes to the organization's documentation of its work but also plays a significant role in promoting transparency and accountability to stakeholders and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review the drafted annual report to understand its content and key messages.
  • Select and insert relevant photographs that complement the text and enhance the visual storytelling of the report.
  • Design an attractive cover page that reflects the mission and values of FJDI.
  • Create a cohesive back page that provides additional information or acknowledgments.
  • Apply graphic design principles to ensure a professional finish, including layout, typography, and color schemes.
  • Collaborate with FJDI staff to incorporate feedback and make necessary revisions.
  • Ensure that the final report is formatted correctly for publication on the FJDI website.
  • Meet deadlines to ensure timely publication of the report.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar tools.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating previous graphic design work, particularly in report design or similar projects.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with FJDI staff and incorporate feedback.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferred. Formal education is not strictly required, but relevant experience and a strong portfolio are essential.

Experience:
Previous experience in graphic design, particularly in creating reports, brochures, or similar materials, is highly desirable. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in a development context is a plus, as it may provide valuable insights into the organization's mission and audience.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the report will be in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda may be beneficial but is not required.
