UNHCR also supports the Republic of Uganda in protecting individuals seeking asylum and those at risk of statelessness. The organization provides direct assistance through implementing partners to refugees and asylum seekers in Uganda, focusing on identifying durable solutions and reducing the risk of statelessness.

Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is situated within the UNHCR Field Office in Yumbe, which oversees the Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement, one of the largest refugee settlements in Uganda and Africa. The role involves ensuring that UNHCR's policies and procedures are applied consistently in the Area of Responsibility (AoR). The volunteer will assess and analyze the needs of persons of concern, ensuring that protection incidents are identified and addressed promptly. The position requires collaboration with local authorities and implementing partners to provide assistance to refugees and asylum seekers, monitor project implementation, and contribute to project submissions and reports. The volunteer will also participate in needs assessments and maintain relationships with local stakeholders to facilitate UNHCR's mandate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake various tasks, including ensuring the application of UNHCR policies in the AoR, assessing the needs of persons of concern, identifying vulnerable groups, and monitoring the implementation of refugee assistance programs. The volunteer will coordinate with implementing partners for the reception and registration of persons of concern, provide inputs for project submissions, and maintain relations with local authorities. Additionally, the volunteer will monitor the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security situation, participate in needs assessments, and undertake other relevant duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, ideally in fields related to international relations, social sciences, or humanitarian assistance. Candidates should have a strong understanding of UNHCR operations and procedures.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in humanitarian work, particularly in refugee settings. Experience in project management, coordination with local authorities, and working with diverse populations is highly valued.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda is considered an asset. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the refugee population may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Yumbe, Uganda, classified as a Category E family duty station with a 12-week rest and recuperation (R&R) cycle. The UNHCR staff in Yumbe enjoy decent living conditions, with improved office and accommodation facilities. However, challenges related to logistics and resource management persist. The organization prioritizes staff welfare, including access to healthcare and emergency evacuation options, and emphasizes maintaining satisfactory working conditions despite operational constraints.
