Job Overview: The Communications Associate will report to the Joint Programme Manager and work closely with the Communications Analyst of the UN Women Country Office. The role involves supporting the formulation and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies for the Gender Equality Accelerator (GEA) IPA programme. The associate will enhance the visibility of the programme through effective communication with partners, media, and the public. The position requires a client-oriented approach and the ability to coordinate various communication efforts, including advocacy campaigns, media relations, and social media management. The associate will also be responsible for tracking media coverage and ensuring alignment with UN Women’s corporate communications guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide coordination support in developing a coherent GEA IPA programme communications and advocacy strategy, including inputs for the communication strategy, organizing events, and ensuring alignment with corporate guidelines.
Develop advocacy materials by identifying key storylines, drafting press releases, and coordinating translations and publications.
Manage the GEA IPA programme’s social media and online presence, producing content, updating platforms, and analyzing web statistics.
Support media relations by maintaining a press database, responding to information requests, and providing inputs for interviews.
Facilitate knowledge management by identifying best practices, organizing training, and exchanging information with relevant stakeholders.
Assist with special web/digital/media projects as needed.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a strong understanding of communication strategies and methods, with the ability to create and present information clearly. Event planning skills and knowledge of social media are essential. The role requires the ability to identify relevant stories and communicate them effectively to a broad audience. Strong multimedia skills are also necessary for this position.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary education is required, while a Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or journalism is desirable. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in communications and advocacy strategies if they have a secondary school education, or 3 years if they hold a Bachelor’s degree. Experience with computer applications, social media, and digital communications is required. Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in producing various types of content and familiarity with gender equality and women’s rights issues is an asset. Previous experience with UN or international organizations is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and content creation.
