The Senior Field Security Assistant is responsible for developing security contingency plans, conducting training sessions, and liaising with local authorities to assess and advise on security conditions. Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise the activities and operations of the security office, including budget preparation.
Maintain communication with security focal points in peacekeeping and other missions for effective security coordination.
Analyze security-related information and provide input to the UN Security Management Team regarding security plans.
Develop security contingency plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and conduct training sessions for staff and visitors.
Liaise with local authorities to assess security conditions and advise on potential threats.
Review investigation reports related to incidents involving staff and ensure timely responses.
Ensure availability of fire detection devices and conduct fire drills.
Evaluate evacuation routes and resources for emergencies.
Submit periodic reports to the DSS Security Incident Reporting System. 1

Perform other related duties as required.

This requirement is reduced to eight years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in analyzing security, crime, political, or military trends is desirable, as is familiarity with data processing. Knowledge of UN security rules, regulations, and procedures, including fire safety and first aid, is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English and Somali (both oral and written) is required for this position. Knowledge of French is considered an asset. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding. Knowledge is defined as a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.
Additional Notes: This position is initially funded for one year, with the possibility of extension subject to budgetary approval. It is subject to local recruitment, meaning that candidates must be residents of Somalia or within commuting distance.
