Job Overview:
The position of Driver at the UNODC Regional Office for South Asia is crucial for ensuring the effective and efficient management of the office's activities. The Driver will provide reliable driving services and administrative support in accordance with UNODC rules and regulations. This role requires a high level of responsibility, courtesy, and tact, as the Driver will interact with individuals from various national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver will be responsible for safely transporting the Regional Representative and other office staff to official meetings, as well as handling the collection and delivery of official documents and communication materials. The position also involves maintaining the office vehicle in optimal condition, ensuring it is safe and reliable for daily use. The Driver will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Associate and will contribute to the overall success of the Regional Office's operations by ensuring timely and safe transportation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's duties and responsibilities include:
  • Providing reliable and secure driving services for the Regional Representative and office staff, ensuring safe transportation to official meetings.
  • Collecting and delivering official mail, documents, and communication materials to and from UNDP, other UN agencies, and government offices.
  • Keeping up-to-date with traffic rules and regulations to ensure safe and timely arrivals.
  • Maintaining the office vehicle in good working condition, including addressing minor repairs and coordinating major repairs as needed.
  • Keeping accurate records of vehicle maintenance, including a logbook for travel assignments, fuel and mileage records, and service records.
  • Performing daily checks on the vehicle, including battery, oil, fuel, tyres, brakes, and water levels.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is clean and presentable at all times.
  • Supporting office staff with visa and customs formalities when required.
  • Assisting with photocopying and communication material dissemination during events and workshops. 1
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor that contribute to the office's operations.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Driver position include:
  • Secondary education is mandatory.
  • A valid driving license is essential.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience as a driver for senior officials in an international organization is required.
  • Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is considered an asset.
  • Proven knowledge and skills in vehicle maintenance and minor repairs are necessary.
  • A strong understanding of driving rules, regulations, and safety measures is required.
  • Basic computer skills are advantageous, as they may assist in record-keeping and communication tasks.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a secondary education. A valid driving license is also a prerequisite for this position, ensuring that the candidate is legally permitted to operate a vehicle in the duty station.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience as a driver, specifically with senior officials of international organizations. Experience with UN agencies or similar international organizations is highly valued, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational standards and expectations of such environments. Candidates should also have proven experience in vehicle maintenance and a solid understanding of driving regulations and safety protocols.

Languages:
Candidates must have a good command of English, both spoken and written. Additionally, knowledge of the national language of the duty station (Hindi) is required to facilitate communication within the local context. Proficiency in other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
