Job Overview: The Driver position at UNDP is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services for office staff and external visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as well as an excellent understanding of protocol and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues. The Driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, and tact while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. This position is not just about driving; it encompasses a range of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of transportation services within the organization. The Driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle, ensuring it is in good working condition, and providing general support services to the office as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provision of reliable and secure driving services, including: a) Driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDP staff, high-ranking officials, and visitors, as well as for the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items. b) Airport pick-up and drop-off services. c) Assisting with visa applications, settling payments, minor purchasing, banking, pouch, and customs services. d) Maintaining punctuality at all times. e) Responding to ad hoc transportation requests and being prepared to work overtime. f) Checking addresses/flight information and utilizing GPS devices. g) Providing copy and printing services as needed.
Ensuring cost savings through proper vehicle use by: a) Accurately maintaining daily vehicle logs and ensuring all related information is complete. b) Providing inputs for the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
Conducting day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including: a) Performing timely minor repairs. b) Arranging for major repairs as necessary. c) Timely changing of oil, checking tires, brakes, and washing the car. d) Timely refueling the vehicle. e) Keeping the assigned vehicle clean and in good condition.
Ensuring availability of all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including: a) UN Car flag. b) Vehicle insurance. c) Vehicle logs. d) Office directory. e) City/country map. f) First aid kit. g) Necessary spare parts.
Taking immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents, including: a) Protecting the accident site. b) Informing the police or calling traffic emergency services. c) Calling for an ambulance if there are injuries. d) Assisting the police with the investigation. e) Helping the Operations Assistant complete an accident report for submission to HQs.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Academic Education: Secondary Education.
Minimum years of relevant work experience: At least 3 years of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
Required skills: Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, skills in minor vehicle repair, good driving skills, proficiency in using computers and office software packages, and good at using office devices such as printers and scanners.
Desired skills: Proven experience in checking address/flight information, delivering financial documents to banks, and customs clearance is desirable. Experience working in international organizations or embassies is an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position is a minimum of secondary education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and duties associated with the role of a driver, including navigation, communication, and basic vehicle maintenance.
Experience: Candidates must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience as a driver. This experience should include a proven safe driving record, demonstrating the ability to operate vehicles responsibly and in compliance with all traffic regulations. Experience in international organizations or embassies is considered an asset, as it indicates familiarity with the protocols and expectations of working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
Languages: Fluency in Chinese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for communication within the local context. Proficiency in English is desirable, as it may be required for interactions with international staff and documentation. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to fulfill the role's requirements.
Additional Notes: The position is offered under a short-term NPSA contract modality, which is issued for a year and can be used intermittently for a maximum of 80 working days per calendar year. The salary will be calculated based on a fixed daily rate and actual working days, regardless of weekends and holidays. An additional hourly rate will be calculated as the daily rate divided by 8, and the salary will be paid at the end of each month.
