Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer - Human Rights Education Coordinator will play a crucial role in promoting human rights education at Habib University as part of the UNDP Pakistan’s Decentralization, Human Rights and Local Governance (DHL) project. This position involves coordinating various human rights education activities on campus, including organizing advocacy events, providing logistical support, and raising awareness about internship and exchange opportunities. The coordinator will work closely with the Academic Task Force to survey the curriculum, ensuring alignment with UNDP and university standards. The role also includes engaging with key stakeholders, maintaining a repository of documents, and facilitating partnerships to expand the human rights academic network in Pakistan. The ultimate goal is to create an enabling environment for rights-based development and to promote human rights education across the academic community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the coordination of UNDP-DHL’s human rights education activities at Habib University, including organizing advocacy events and providing logistical support.
  • Support the Academic Task Force in surveying the curriculum and facilitating information exchange.
  • Coordinate with Habib University staff and UNDP-DHL’s communications focal point to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Engage with faculty and academic leadership to integrate key recommendations and facilitate stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist students in accessing information and capacity-building tools for academic exchanges and internships.
  • Maintain a repository of key documents to facilitate information exchange between UNDP-DHL and Habib University.
  • Expand the human rights academic network by forging partnerships and conducting advocacy.
  • Raise awareness of Habib University’s efforts in promoting human rights education within the wider academic community.
  • Identify stakeholders for collaborative research and advocacy initiatives. 1
  • Develop and disseminate briefs for academic conferences and workshops. 1
  • Facilitate external advocacy events at relevant universities and research centers in Sindh.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to coordinate activities and engage with diverse stakeholders. A background in human rights, education, or a related field is essential. The candidate should also have experience in project management and advocacy, with a commitment to promoting human rights and social inclusion. Proficiency in using digital tools for communication and documentation is required, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in human rights, social sciences, education, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. The candidate should have a solid understanding of human rights principles and the educational landscape in Pakistan.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in project coordination, advocacy, or education, preferably in a non-profit or academic setting. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations in Pakistan is highly desirable. Familiarity with human rights issues and educational initiatives will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Urdu or other local languages is an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UNV assignment, and the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 183,920 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. The assignment includes life health and permanent disability insurance, health insurance for up to 3 dependents, and a resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The position is full-time and requires a commitment to promoting human rights education and development in Pakistan.
