Job Overview: The Driver position at IOM Islamabad involves managing the resources management functions within the office. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving assigned IOM vehicles, ensuring their maintenance, and managing transportation logistics for official business. This role requires a high level of responsibility and accountability, as the driver will be tasked with ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of IOM officials during transport. The position also includes clerical duties as needed, making it essential for the candidate to be adaptable and ready to assist with various tasks beyond driving. The driver will be expected to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism while interacting with IOM officials and other stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Driver include:
Driving assigned IOM office vehicle(s) and ensuring their roadworthiness through daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, and other essential components.
Arranging for minor repairs and ensuring that vehicles are kept clean and well-maintained.
Keeping records of spare parts and conducting monthly inventories.
Finding the safest and most direct routes for travel and ensuring that vehicles are used only for official business as directed by the supervisor.
Preparing daily log sheets and monthly reports summarizing vehicle statistics such as mileage and fuel consumption.
Maintaining confidentiality in discussions involving IOM and its officials.
Taking appropriate actions to mitigate potential security threats to IOM officials and property.
Meeting official personnel at airports and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.
Collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other communications/items as needed. 1
Assisting country office staff with simple clerical duties such as answering calls, making photocopies, and keeping records. 1
Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Driver position include:
A high school degree or certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
A valid national driver’s license is mandatory.
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations is essential.
Experience in driving various makes and models of vehicles is required.
Skills in minor vehicle repairs are advantageous.
Proficiency in using radio, email, telephone, and other communication applications is necessary.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent certification. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution is preferred but not mandatory. The educational background should ideally include training or coursework related to vehicle operation and maintenance.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant driving experience. This experience should include knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with various vehicle types. Experience in minor vehicle repairs is also beneficial, as it will enable the driver to manage basic maintenance tasks independently.
Languages: Fluency in English and Urdu, both oral and written, is required for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of any other local languages is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the driver's effectiveness in the role.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Pakistan will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
