This position requires the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and security strategy tailored to the unique challenges of the region. The Security Manager will work closely with the Response Coordinator and other project managers to ensure that security measures are effectively integrated into program operations. This role involves not only managing day-to-day security operations but also providing strategic guidance and support to enhance the overall security posture of FHI 360 in the region. The Security Manager will also be responsible for conducting security risk assessments, managing incident responses, and ensuring that all staff are adequately trained in safety protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Manager's duties include assisting state offices in developing and overseeing office security programs, providing technical security advice, conducting security risk assessments, managing physical security measures, and conducting hotel assessments for safety approvals. The role also involves providing security briefings to staff and visitors, drafting security advisories, and conducting periodic briefings to keep all personnel informed about security developments. The Security Manager will coordinate incident and crisis management efforts, maintain and periodically test the security management plan, and organize safety training for all staff. Additionally, the Security Manager will develop and deliver location-specific safety briefings for visitors and new employees, as well as manage relocation and evacuation plans for all locations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree or relevant certification in security management, with a formal security qualification or training in complex environments being highly desirable. A minimum of 10 years of post-graduate experience in security management is required, with a Master's degree in a related field considered an advantage. The ideal candidate should have experience working in international organizations and a strong understanding of security strategies for humanitarian operations. Knowledge of personnel and organizational security issues, threat/risk assessment, and security awareness in complex contexts is essential. Candidates should also have experience in incident reporting, training, and coaching staff in safety and security protocols.
Educational Background: The position requires a degree level education or relevant certification in security management. A formal security qualification or training in security management is preferred, particularly in complex environments. A Master's degree in a related field will be considered an added advantage, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for this critical role.
Experience: The Security Manager should have a minimum of 10 years of post-graduate experience in security management, particularly in humanitarian or complex environments. Experience working for international organizations and familiarity with security strategies for humanitarian operations is essential. Candidates should also have a proven track record in incident reporting, security assessments, and training staff in safety and security protocols.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and the ability to speak local languages such as Hausa and Kanuri is highly desirable. Proficiency in multiple languages will enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders, which is crucial for effective security management in the region.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Maiduguri, Nigeria, and may require travel (up to 50%) throughout the assigned states on short notice.
