Job Overview:
The Driver position at FHI 360 is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff, consultants, and program goods to various locations including offices, guest houses, hospitals, and warehouses. The driver will work under the supervision of the Facility Officer and is expected to maintain the vehicle in good working condition, adhere to safety protocols, and ensure that all journeys are authorized. This role is essential in supporting the organization's mission to provide emergency assistance to those in need, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria. The driver will also be responsible for keeping accurate records of vehicle usage and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: checking the vehicle before and after use to ensure it is in good working order; reporting any defects or damages immediately; submitting monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption; ensuring all vehicle journeys are pre-authorized; maintaining a logbook of all movements; keeping vehicle documents up to date and secure; ensuring the safety of passengers by enforcing the use of seat belts; driving within approved speed limits and adhering to fleet policies; reporting any incidents or accidents immediately; and supporting logistics and warehouse assistants as needed. The driver must also ensure that the vehicle is kept clean both inside and out on a daily basis and should be able to diagnose minor faults in the vehicle and perform basic repairs as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid SSCE/NECO Certificate Examination and have between 1 to 4 years of experience working as a driver for reputable organizations, including international NGOs, corporate entities, or government agencies. Experience as a mechanic or auto-electrician is desirable, as is familiarity with working in Northeast Nigeria or other relatively insecure locations. A valid National driving license is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate excellent verbal communication and listening skills. Proficiency in English, Hausa, and Kanuri is required, along with basic computer literacy in programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a minimum of a Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent, which demonstrates the candidate's foundational education and ability to engage in the responsibilities of the role effectively.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 4 years of relevant driving experience, particularly in challenging environments. Experience with reputable organizations, especially in humanitarian contexts, is highly valued. Candidates with a background in mechanics or auto-electrical work will have an advantage, as this knowledge can be beneficial in maintaining the vehicle and addressing minor issues that may arise during operations.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Additionally, the ability to communicate in Hausa and Kanuri is highly desirable, as these languages are commonly spoken in the regions where FHI 360 operates, facilitating better interaction with local communities and stakeholders.
