Job Overview:
The Field Security Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting FAO's emergency humanitarian efforts in the northeast and other regions of Nigeria. This position requires a proactive approach to security management, including the preparation of Security Risk Assessments (SRA) and the implementation of Security Risk Management (SRM) protocols. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the FAO Representative and collaborate closely with other UN agencies' security focal points. The role involves monitoring security policies and procedures to ensure the safety of FAO personnel, premises, and assets. The Field Security Assistant will be responsible for responding to security emergencies, providing immediate assistance, and ensuring compliance with UN security policies. This position is vital for maintaining a secure environment for FAO operations, particularly in areas affected by conflict and instability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Security Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: responding to staff security emergencies and organizing immediate assistance; ensuring appropriate responses to incidents such as theft or vandalism; assisting management in compliance with UN security policies; conducting daily reviews of the security situation and advising on potential threats; disseminating security information and advisories to staff; conducting security assessments as needed; maintaining contacts with local security organizations; ensuring fire safety arrangements are in place; keeping records of staff movements; providing security support for field operations; enforcing compliance with security protocols for vehicle movements; conducting security briefings for new staff; assisting in preparing security clearances; and organizing training on security awareness for staff and their families.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in risk or emergency management, social or political science, military science, public administration, law enforcement, or a closely related field. Additionally, a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a national or international police force, armed forces, private security organization, or security service of a large organization is required. A working knowledge of English at Level C is mandatory, and candidates must be nationals of Nigeria.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as risk or emergency management, social or political science, military science, public administration, law enforcement, or a closely related technical discipline. It is essential that the degree is obtained from an accredited institution recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least two years of relevant experience in security roles, which can include work in national or international police forces, armed forces, private security organizations, or security services of large organizations. This experience should demonstrate a solid understanding of security protocols and emergency management.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English (Level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.
