Job Overview:
The Field Coordinator serves as the organization's representative at the field level, tasked with proposing and implementing strategies tailored to the geopolitical and humanitarian context of the area. This role involves ensuring that projects align with the Solidarités International charter and adhere to internal and contractual procedures. The Field Coordinator is responsible for mobilizing the necessary material and financial resources for program execution, supervising resource management, and coordinating the teams in the designated area while ensuring their security. Additionally, the Field Coordinator represents the organization to local authorities, upholding humanitarian principles and maintaining effective communication with the country office regarding any challenges encountered.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Coordinator's primary responsibilities include:
  • Developing and proposing a strategic plan for the area of operation based on the humanitarian context.
  • Ensuring the implementation of projects in compliance with the organization's charter and internal procedures.
  • Mobilizing and managing material and financial resources necessary for program operations.
  • Coordinating and supervising field teams, ensuring their safety and security.
  • Representing the organization to local authorities and stakeholders, ensuring adherence to humanitarian principles.
  • Monitoring project progress, particularly in Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) activities, and facilitating team communication.
  • Conducting context and security assessments in Borno state and the operational area.
  • Enforcing compliance with organizational processes and security protocols.
  • Addressing challenges and facilitating smooth communication with the country office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related field. Additionally, they should have substantial experience in the humanitarian sector, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and 3-4 years in a similar position. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the humanitarian landscape, particularly in the areas of WASH, FSL, and Shelter, and possess skills in strategic planning and team management.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related discipline is required for this position. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the management of development projects.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a minimum of 3-4 years in a similar management role. This experience should include substantial exposure to complex, fast-evolving environments and the ability to manage teams effectively under pressure.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.

  • The role is based in Maiduguri, which has a secure environment but requires adherence to strict security protocols. The organization offers a competitive salary starting from EUR 3080 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 600 is provided, along with accommodation and travel expenses covered by the organization. Expatriates will benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions include accommodation in a guest house with private amenities, and while movement outside is limited due to security reasons, essential goods and services are accessible within Maiduguri.
