Job Overview:
The Audit Specialist position at UN Women is a critical role within the Internal Audit Service (IAS) of the Independent Evaluation, Audit, and Investigations Services (IEAIS). The incumbent will be responsible for performing risk-based audits of business processes at UN Women Headquarters and its offices worldwide. This includes auditing programs, projects, corporate functions, systems, and internal controls, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. The Audit Specialist will lead audits, manage audit teams, and provide substantive support and advice on operational matters. The role requires a strong understanding of governance, risk management, and internal controls, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and present audit findings clearly. The position also involves capacity development within the audit team and contributing to knowledge management initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage the Internal Audit Plan, contributing to its formulation and implementation. Conduct audits and advisory reviews in accordance with international standards and UN Women guidelines. Lead end-to-end audits focusing on performance, compliance, and governance.
  • Provide timely support and advice on operational matters, collaborating with senior management on audit-related tasks and quality assurance reviews.
  • Strengthen internal audit capacity by coaching team members and assessing their performance.
  • Contribute to knowledge management by providing training on governance and risk management, developing audit guidelines, and sharing best practices.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Auditing, or a related field. A first-level degree with a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor designation and additional experience may be accepted. Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) are desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of auditing standards, risk assessment, and governance processes, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. A first-level degree with a CPA or CIA designation may be accepted with additional experience. Additional professional certifications are advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in audit, evaluation, or risk management is required, with at least 4 years in an international organization. Candidates should have hands-on experience conducting value for money audits and proficiency in developing audit criteria and performance indicators. Experience in information systems technology and leading teams in international settings is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, with good working knowledge of French or Spanish being desirable. Knowledge of additional UN official languages (Arabic, Chinese, or Russian) is also advantageous.
