Interns will engage in a variety of tasks that support the Peacebuilding Impact Hub and the Peacebuilding Commission Support Branch. The role is primarily focused on assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of peacebuilding programs and projects. Interns will also be involved in monitoring actions taken by various stakeholders in peacebuilding efforts, supporting policy development, and preparing written outputs such as reports and background papers. The internship is full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, but can be adjusted to part-time based on the intern's needs. The position is unpaid and offers a unique opportunity to work closely with UN staff and gain insights into the workings of international peacebuilding initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: supporting the development and evaluation of peacebuilding programs, monitoring actions related to peacebuilding by various organizations, assisting in policy development and research activities, preparing written outputs such as reports and background papers, drafting and publishing the Peacebuilding Impact Hub’s Global Overview Report, conducting outreach activities, designing and facilitating training workshops, collecting and analyzing data to identify trends, researching and summarizing background materials for meetings and reports, coordinating service-wide activities and special projects, managing internal databases, updating websites, preparing presentation materials, and performing various administrative tasks as needed. Interns will have the opportunity to work independently on substantive issues while also assisting colleagues in daily operations, and they will be encouraged to explore training options available to UN staff.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must provide proof of their academic status and may need to submit an official certificate later in the application process.
Educational Background: Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship, ideally in fields such as international relations, peace studies, social sciences, or related disciplines. Applicants must indicate their current degree program and expected graduation date in their Motivational Statement.
Experience: While prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position.
