Job Overview:
The Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality, coherence, and integrity of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) data across the United Nations system. This position is essential for supporting the strengthening of system-wide SEA reporting and analysis, which will ultimately inform evidence-based strategies for preventing sexual exploitation and abuse. The analyst will be responsible for ensuring that data is accurate, harmonized, and accessible, while also analyzing trends in prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) to guide strategic interventions. The work will involve innovative approaches that consider digital transformation and adaptive analytics, contributing to a culture of continuous innovation in SEA data systems. The Data Analyst will report to the Senior Political Affairs Officer and will be expected to generate, analyze, and communicate high-quality, data-driven insights that support evidence-based decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Improving data flows by collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance SEA data practices across the UN system, utilizing tools like the Case Management Tracking System (CMTS) and the electronic SEA reporting platform (iReport).
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in data entry and reporting, implementing approved enhancements to data systems.
  • Supporting data quality and integrity by selecting reliable data sources and leading updates to the iReport, including developing protocols for data validation.
  • Conducting advanced analytics to identify trends using statistical and machine learning methods, and developing user-friendly dashboards for public reporting.
  • Engaging with substantive teams to gather input on data usage and reporting requirements, ensuring that data solutions meet operational needs.
  • Providing training and technical support to data entry focal points, simplifying technical concepts for better understanding and ownership.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, or public administration. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, information management, or statistics is required. Proficiency in handling complex data and analyzing large datasets is essential, along with expertise in creating effective data visualizations and analysis strategies. Experience with self-service analytics tools and business intelligence applications is also required, while experience in survey design and data collection is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, or public administration. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have sufficient qualifying experience. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of data analysis and management within the context of the United Nations' operations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, information management, or statistics. Candidates should have a proven track record of handling complex data from various sources and analyzing large datasets, often involving multiple stakeholders. Experience in creating user-friendly data visualizations and effective data analysis strategies is essential, as is familiarity with self-service analytics and data visualization applications such as MS PowerBI, Qlik, or Tableau. Additionally, experience in survey design and data collection is desirable, as well as knowledge of database or programming languages like SQL, Python, or R.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French or Spanish is considered desirable, and familiarity with another official UN language is also advantageous. This linguistic proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of the United Nations.
