The primary focus of this internship is to assist in the implementation of the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping, which aims to leverage technology to enhance the safety and security of peacekeepers and improve the implementation of UN mandates. The intern will engage in various activities that support digital transformation initiatives, including conducting research, analyzing data, and contributing to strategic recommendations. The role is designed to be full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, but can be adjusted to part-time or remote work based on the candidate's needs. The expected duration of the internship is three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, starting on or around June 15, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: assisting in the identification, development, implementation, and evaluation of digital transformation initiatives; conducting background research on peacekeeping challenges and digital solutions; synthesizing findings into actionable insights; designing and conducting surveys and consultations; analyzing and visualizing data; drafting various written outputs such as reports and presentations; maintaining organized records of meetings and project documents; supporting the planning and facilitation of workshops and consultations; coordinating workstreams and events; providing logistical and administrative support; and carrying out additional tasks as required to support the DET's priorities.
Required Qualifications: Applicants are encouraged from a broad range of educational backgrounds, particularly those with academic experience in Strategy Development, Innovation, IT, Engineering, Project Management, or Public Administration. To qualify for the internship, candidates must be enrolled in a graduate program, in their final year of a bachelor's degree, or have recently graduated. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, a strong interest in the UN's work, and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates must meet one of the following educational criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's degree); or have graduated with a university degree as defined above. Proof of enrollment or graduation will be required during the application process.
Experience: While professional work experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should have a field of study closely related to the internship's focus.
