The internship is expected to last for six months, starting on June 1, 2026, or sooner. The selected intern will work within the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility, which is part of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) under the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO). The WPS Facility focuses on enhancing gender-responsive rule of law support to member states and various stakeholders, aligning with international gender equality norms and Security Council Resolutions. The intern will provide research support for projects aimed at advancing the WPS agenda and will engage in various activities related to gender issues in peace operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including: providing research support for the project 'Accelerating the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Young Women’s Empowerment through UN Assistance to Rule of Law and Security Institutions (Phase II)'; supporting work on peacekeeping transitions; monitoring UN proceedings and reports related to gender/WPS; participating in UN and external meetings, preparing summary notes; assisting in organizing meetings and consultations, managing logistics, and preparing materials; contributing to the development of UN reports and policy documents; supporting strategic communication efforts and stakeholder engagement; providing administrative support, including maintaining SharePoint sites and datasets on gender equality; and performing any other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program or have completed such programs. Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Excel.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or being in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Proof of enrollment or completion will need to be provided during the application process.
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in areas related to gender studies, peace and security, international relations, or similar fields.
