Job Overview: The HSSE Advisor is tasked with advising the Head of HSSE and Management teams in Regions and Country Offices on the implementation of UNOPS HSSE practices, programs, and requirements. This role involves reporting to the Head of Unit - HSSE and secondary reporting to the Europe and Central Asia Regional Infrastructure Advisor. The Advisor will work at both global and regional levels, providing technical support, strategic guidance, and oversight to ensure HSSE integration throughout the project life cycle. This includes developing and maintaining policies, key performance indicators, and capacity-building programs, as well as coordinating HSSE activities across various teams and projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The HSSE Advisor's responsibilities include supporting the development and maintenance of UNOPS HSSE Policies and Technical Specifications, developing the global program for occupational health and safety (OHS) and Social and Environmental (SE) Management, and advising regional management teams on effective HSSE oversight. The Advisor will also coordinate the participation of HSSE users in the development of a UNOPS HSSE system, manage HSSE budgets, and address grievances and incidents for assigned business units. Additionally, the Advisor will research and present HSSE information, develop capacity-building programs, and ensure collaboration with relevant networks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or Social Development. They should have at least 7 years of specialist-level experience in developing and implementing HSSE in development projects, with a preference for candidates who have at least three years of experience working in Europe or Central Asia. Full working knowledge of English is required, and familiarity with other languages may be advantageous.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant subject such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Social Development, or other relevant disciplines is mandatory for this position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of specialist-level experience in developing and implementing HSSE practices in development projects. Experience in Europe or Central Asia is considered an asset, particularly if it spans at least three years.
Languages: Full working knowledge of English is mandatory for this role. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.
