Established to promote sustainable and inclusive development, ESCAP operates in the Asia and Pacific region, providing policy-oriented research, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building to its member states. The organization focuses on responding to the development priorities and changing needs of the region, with a mission to enhance regional connectivity and cooperation among its members. ESCAP has a significant presence in multiple countries across the Asia-Pacific region, working collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Overview:

The intern will be involved in supporting ongoing projects related to sustainable agricultural mechanization and technology, which are crucial for achieving the internationally agreed development goals in the region. The internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring a commitment of five days per week, totaling 37.5 hours. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member, and their responsibilities will vary based on their background and the duration of the internship. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of a major international organization and contribute to meaningful projects that impact sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to: providing support to ongoing projects, assisting in social media outreach to promote ESCAP's initiatives, offering administrative support to ensure smooth operations within the office, working on presentations to communicate project findings and updates, and consolidating and sorting data to aid in research and analysis. The specific duties will depend on the intern's skills and the needs of the division or office they are assigned to, allowing for a tailored experience that aligns with their academic background and career aspirations.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This ensures that candidates possess a foundational level of education that is relevant to the tasks they will undertake during the internship.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a relevant academic program or have recently completed their studies. This educational requirement is essential to ensure that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the projects and tasks assigned to them during their time at ESCAP.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated for this internship, any relevant experience in project support, research, or administrative roles would be beneficial. Interns are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the working environment of the United Nations, and any previous exposure to international organizations or development work would be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also advantageous, as it is another working language within the organization. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus, depending on the specific projects the intern will be involved in.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of China may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements with the organization prior to accepting the internship offer. The internship duration is expected to be between two to three months, with the possibility of extension up to a total of six months, depending on the intern's performance and the needs of the organization.
