Job Overview: The GIS Senior Analyst position is a critical role within the UNOPS team in Thailand, responsible for managing geographic information systems to support operations and evidence generation. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme ManagementAdvisor and will be tasked with developing and implementing GIS capabilities, conducting advanced spatial analysis, and creating mapping applications. This role requires a strong understanding of geospatial data management and the ability to produce high-quality visualizations and reports that inform decision-making processes. The GIS Senior Analyst will also be responsible for training and coordinating with staff and stakeholders on GIS-related issues, ensuring that best practices are shared and implemented across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Delivery and Performance: Deliver GIS mapping capabilities and intuitive data visualizations in accordance with UNOPS standards; create digital maps and geospatial data outputs; maintain relevant geospatial data; conduct spatial data analysis on various topics; extract features from remote sensing products; support initiatives with relevant maps and visual products.
Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with team members to understand requirements and produce multi-disciplinary analyses; establish and maintain relationships with partners.
Monitoring and Reporting: Develop and update a geo-referenced database; prepare information products from GIS spatial analysis as required.
Capacity Strengthening, Knowledge Sharing and Innovation: Create and maintain knowledge transfer in GIS; facilitate knowledge sharing within teams and across partners; disseminate GIS analysis and mapping products.
Required Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in the above fields, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, may be considered in lieu of the Master's Degree. Extensive knowledge of geospatial analysis, cartography, and database management is essential. Experience with GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS is required, along with proficiency in office software packages. Advanced knowledge of satellite image processing is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian projects.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, or a related field. A Bachelor's Degree in these fields, along with two additional years of relevant experience, may be accepted in lieu of a Master's Degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of GIS and spatial data analysis.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in GIS, data analysis, and remote sensing is required. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of geospatial analysis, cartography, and database management. Experience with GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS is essential, as well as familiarity with office software. Experience in development or humanitarian projects, particularly with the UN or international organizations, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in the context of working with diverse stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is a Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA) - Retainer, at the Specialist-9 level. The contract duration is one year, with a maximum of 200 working days. This is a retainer position, meaning the incumbent will work for a maximum of 200 days per annum, subject to organizational requirements and satisfactory performance. The incumbent will be required to use their personal laptop for work.
