Job Overview:
The Driver position at FHI 360 is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient transportation services for staff and visitors. The role involves transporting project staff, consultants, and visitors to various approved locations while maintaining the safety, cleanliness, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and overall maintenance of the vehicle. The Driver is expected to perform daily vehicle checks, ensure compliance with traffic laws, and adhere to FHI 360's vehicle policies and security standard operating procedures (SOPs). This position requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and safety, ensuring that all necessary documentation is up to date and that the vehicle is in optimal condition for use. The Driver will also assist clients during entry and exit from the vehicle and fulfill special requests as needed, demonstrating a commitment to providing excellent service and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following key duties:
  • Operate the vehicle safely to ensure the transportation of clients as needed.
  • Ensure that all passengers wear seat belts during transportation.
  • Drive within the speed limits set by Ethiopian traffic laws.
  • Adhere strictly to FHI 360's vehicle policies and security SOPs.
  • Conduct daily and pre-long-distance vehicle checks, documenting findings and reporting to transport staff.
  • Maintain an accurate vehicle log sheet, ensuring users sign it for each trip.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and mechanically sound, reporting any defaults on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
  • Inspect and maintain all vehicle accessories to ensure they are operational.
  • Conduct quarterly validity checks on onboard documentation, including insurance and driving licenses, and report any vehicle defects to transport staff. 1
  • Assist clients during entry and exit from vehicles and provide other courtesies as necessary. 1
  • Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of the vehicle, including timely oil changes, inspections, brakes, and tire pressure checks. 1
  • Arrange for major repairs when needed. 1
  • Ensure all required documents related to the vehicle are in order and up to date. 1
  • Plan routes and requirements based on the schedule or ad-hoc requests from the office. 1
  • Ensure passengers adhere to all road safety regulations. 1
  • Fulfill special requests by picking up and delivering items as directed and running errands. 1

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Driver position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience driving in challenging terrain and mountainous areas.

  • Capability to detect errors quickly within the immediate work unit, resulting in only minor disruptions or expenses to correct.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a minimum of secondary school education or an equivalent qualification. A trade test certificate is also required, along with a valid Grade 3 driving license and a clean driving record. Experience in operating large vehicles is preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.

Experience:
Applicants should have at least 5 years of experience as a driver, preferably with a government or international organization. Experience in driving four-wheel drive vehicles is essential, as is a valid driving license and a clean driving record. Candidates should also have experience in the operation of large vehicles or a combination of relevant experience and training.

Languages:
