Job Overview: The Driver position at FHI 360 is crucial for providing safe and efficient transportation services for staff and visitors. The role involves transporting project staff, consultants, and visitors to designated locations while ensuring the safety, cleanliness, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and maintenance of the vehicle. The Driver is expected to perform daily vehicle checks, maintain accurate logs, and ensure compliance with traffic laws and organizational policies. This position requires a commitment to safety and service, as the Driver will also assist clients during entry and exit from vehicles and fulfill special requests as needed. The role is essential in supporting the organization's mission by facilitating the mobility of personnel involved in humanitarian efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
Operate the vehicle to ensure safe transportation of clients as needed.
Ensure that all passengers wear seat belts during travel.
Adhere to Ethiopian traffic laws and drive within acceptable speed limits.
Follow FHI 360 vehicle policies and security standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conduct daily and pre-long-distance vehicle checks, documenting findings with transport staff.
Maintain an accurate vehicle log sheet, ensuring users sign it per trip.
Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and mechanically sound, reporting any defaults regularly.
Inspect and maintain all vehicle accessories to ensure they are operational.
Conduct quarterly validity checks on onboard documentation, including insurance and driving licenses. 1
Assist clients during entry and exit from vehicles and provide other courtesies as necessary. 1
Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of the vehicle, including timely oil changes and inspections. 1
Arrange for major repairs when needed. 1
Ensure all required documents related to the vehicle are current and in order. 1
Plan routes based on schedules or ad-hoc requests from the office. 1
Ensure compliance with all road safety regulations. 1
Fulfill special requests by picking up and delivering items as directed and running errands. 1
Protect clients in high-risk locations as necessary.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Driver position should possess the following qualifications:
Proven experience driving in challenging terrain and mountainous areas.
A mature, hardworking, and enthusiastic attitude, with a helpful demeanor towards others.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and addressing issues with established procedures.
Ability to refer non-standard questions and problems to higher levels for resolution.
Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a minimum of secondary school education or an equivalent qualification. This educational background is essential for understanding vehicle operation and safety regulations.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a driver with a government or international organization is required. Candidates should have experience driving four-wheel drive vehicles and possess a valid Grade 3 driving license. Additionally, a trade test certificate and a clean driving record are necessary. Experience operating large vehicles or an equivalent combination of experience and training is also acceptable.
