Job Overview: The position of Caregiver for Unaccompanied Minors is critical in the context of the ongoing migrant and refugee situation in Greece. The successful candidate will join IOM Greece's initiative aimed at providing targeted care interventions for unaccompanied children (UMC) residing in the country. This role involves working closely with UMC to ensure their safety, well-being, and integration into the accommodation facility. The caregiver will be responsible for daily operations, creating a supportive environment, and implementing individualized care plans. The position requires a compassionate individual who can manage crises effectively and maintain a structured routine for the minors, ensuring their needs are met in a safe and nurturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The caregiver will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the daily operations of the accommodation facility, ensuring the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of UMC at all times, managing crises and emergencies by following established protocols, maintaining hygiene and living conditions in collaboration with facility staff, organizing daily routines and activities for UMC, providing support for educational and recreational activities, escorting UMC to social and medical services, assisting with the distribution of basic goods, overseeing meal times, and ensuring laundry services are accessible. The caregiver will also be expected to perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the well-being of the minors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school degree or certificate and have at least two years of certified work experience in the care and protection of unaccompanied minors. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, particularly in an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees is advantageous, as is experience working in a multicultural environment. Candidates should also demonstrate computer literacy in standard software applications, a willingness to work flexible hours, and possess a valid driver's license with a minimum of five years of driving experience.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent certification. Candidates must have relevant certifications that demonstrate their capability in working with unaccompanied minors and in care settings. Accredited institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database are preferred for educational qualifications.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a caregiving role, particularly with unaccompanied minors or in a similar context. Experience working in emergency accommodation facilities or with migrant populations is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a proven track record of working effectively in diverse and multicultural environments, showcasing adaptability and resilience in challenging situations.
Languages: Fluency in Greek, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of English, French, or any other language that facilitates communication with beneficiaries is considered an advantage. Proficiency in languages such as Arabic, Somali, Sorani, and Turkish is also beneficial and may enhance the candidate's ability to connect with the UMC.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered.
