Job Overview:
The Facility Care Worker position is integral to the IOM's project aimed at supporting unaccompanied migrant children (UMC) and vulnerable women applicants for international protection in Greece. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing daily care and support to UMC in an accommodation facility, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role involves working closely with the Project Assistant and Facility Coordinator to create a supportive environment that fosters the protection and development of UMC. The Facility Care Worker will engage in daily operations, manage crises, and maintain hygiene and living conditions, while also organizing structured activities and supporting educational and recreational needs. The position requires a commitment to the welfare of UMC and the ability to work collaboratively with other staff members to implement individualized care plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Facility Care Worker include:
  • Providing daily care and support to unaccompanied migrant children (UMC) in the accommodation facility.
  • Supporting the daily operations of the facility in accordance with internal procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensuring the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of UMC at all times, including during nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Keeping track of exits and returns of UMC and visitors to the facility.
  • Implementing crisis management protocols in emergencies, including notifying local authorities when necessary.
  • Preventing damage to equipment and building structures while guiding UMC in their proper use.
  • Overseeing hygiene and living conditions in accommodation rooms in collaboration with UMC and facility staff.
  • Organizing daily routines and structured activities for UMC based on individualized schedules.
  • Providing support for educational and recreational activities as needed. 1
  • Driving and escorting UMC to social and medical services when required. 1
  • Assisting with night-time preparations and being present during night shifts. 1
  • Distributing basic goods and ensuring timely replacement and storage of items. 1
  • Monitoring food conditions and ensuring meals are served on time. 1
  • Assisting UMC in accessing laundry services and managing laundry schedules. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • A high school degree or certificate.
  • At least two years of certified work experience in the care and protection of unaccompanied minors.
  • Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office) is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is advantageous.
  • Flexibility and capacity for conflict resolution, along with good communication skills, personal commitment, and efficiency are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a high school degree or certificate. Accredited universities recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database are preferred. The educational background should reflect a focus on social work, psychology, or related fields that prepare individuals for working with vulnerable populations, particularly unaccompanied minors.

Experience:
Candidates should have previous experience in a similar role, preferably within an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred, and experience in a multicultural environment is advantageous. The role requires a demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations and to manage the needs of vulnerable individuals.

Languages:
Fluency in Greek is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Working knowledge of English, French, or any other language that facilitates communication with beneficiaries is desirable. Additionally, knowledge of Arabic, Somali, Sorani, and/or Turkish is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication with UMC from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable. Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for IOM personnel.
