Job Overview:
The National Consultant will be responsible for preparing Egypt’s 7th National Report (NR) on Biodiversity, which is a crucial document that outlines the country's efforts and progress in conserving biodiversity. This role involves extensive research, data collection, and analysis to assess the current state of biodiversity in Egypt. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to gather relevant information and insights. The position requires a deep understanding of biodiversity issues, national and international policies, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. The consultant will also be expected to provide recommendations for future actions and strategies to enhance biodiversity conservation efforts in Egypt.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing biodiversity data and reports in Egypt.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather input and feedback on biodiversity issues and conservation efforts.
  • Analyze the current status of biodiversity in Egypt, including threats and challenges.
  • Prepare a draft of the 7th National Report on Biodiversity, ensuring it aligns with national and international reporting requirements.
  • Present findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders and incorporate their feedback into the final report.
  • Collaborate with UNDP and other partners to ensure the report meets quality standards and deadlines.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to government agencies in implementing biodiversity conservation strategies.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to discuss biodiversity issues and promote awareness among stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in biodiversity conservation, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with national and international biodiversity policies and frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for data analysis and report writing.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Biodiversity Conservation, Ecology, or a related field is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic background and a demonstrated commitment to biodiversity issues.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation or environmental management is required. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations is highly desirable. Previous experience in preparing national reports or similar documents will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the quality of the report. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is four months, with a total of forty working days. This is a consultancy role, and the consultant will work on a part-time basis. The position is open to both national and international candidates. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include travel allowances and other relevant expenses as per UNDP policies.
