Job Overview: The position of VolunteerTranslator involves translating a 22-page document from English to Portuguese, specifically focusing on the 'SOP - PHYSICAL ACCESS CONTROL PROCEDURES FOR UN HOUSE – BRASÍLIA'. The selected volunteer will participate in an initial online meeting to discuss the translation activity and will be expected to provide status updates throughout the week scheduled for the translation work. This role is crucial in ensuring that important procedural documents are accurately translated to facilitate understanding and compliance within the UN House in Brasília. The volunteer will need to demonstrate attention to detail and a strong command of both languages to ensure the translation is not only accurate but also contextually appropriate for the intended audience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend an initial online meeting to discuss the translation task and clarify any questions regarding the document.
Translate the 22-page document from English to Portuguese, ensuring accuracy and clarity in the translation.
Maintain confidentiality regarding the content of the document by signing a confidentiality agreement prior to receiving the document.
Provide regular status updates on the progress of the translation work throughout the scheduled week.
Review and revise the translated document to ensure it meets the required standards and is free of errors.
Collaborate with UNDP staff if needed to clarify any specific terminology or context related to the document being translated.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in both English and Portuguese, with a strong understanding of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary in both languages.
Experience in translation, particularly in legal or procedural documents, is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain the original meaning and context of the document during translation.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and objectives, as well as an understanding of the context in which the document will be used, is advantageous.
