Duties and Responsibilities: The Area Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing area-specific input on country strategies and action plans; implementing strategies that promote localization; assessing community needs and developing emergency response plans; ensuring optimal resource utilization within project budgets; organizing grants opening and closure meetings; overseeing project implementation in compliance with contractual commitments; representing NRC and networking with key stakeholders; managing the security and safety of staff; ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures; and building the capacity of project staff and support functions. The Area Manager will also be a member of the Country Management Group (CMG) and will advocate for the rights of internally displaced persons and returnees.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess over three years of experience in area management or general managerial positions within a humanitarian or recovery context. Previous experience in complex and volatile environments is essential, along with a proven track record in implementing in-kind assistance and managing cash-based interventions. Strong strategic leadership, people management, and interpersonal skills are required. Familiarity with the Ukrainian context and experience in change management will be considered advantageous. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in humanitarian studies, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, particularly for candidates with extensive experience in the humanitarian sector.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in area management or similar roles within humanitarian contexts. Experience in managing complex projects and leading teams in challenging environments is crucial. Familiarity with cash-based interventions and market-based programs is also important, as is experience in strategic planning and implementation.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both in written and verbal communication. Knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian may be considered an asset, particularly for candidates working in the Dnipro area, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Dnipro, Ukraine, with a contract duration of 24 months. The role may require travel of up to 30%. The salary will be determined according to NRC's grading structure, specifically at Grade 1
