Job Overview:
The Associate IT Officer (Database & ERP) position is crucial for the Infrastructure and Technology Division (ITID) within the Information Technology Department (ITD) at ADB. This role involves managing SQL Server databases, Azure SQL, and Power BI reporting environments, ensuring that data integration, performance optimization, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and user access are effectively handled to meet the organization's data management and business intelligence needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, setup, and management of MS SQL Server instances, both on-premises and in virtualized environments. They will also oversee security measures, backup and recovery procedures, and provide support for various applications that utilize MS SQL Server. The role requires a proactive approach to optimizing database performance and ensuring compliance with system reliability standards. Additionally, the Associate IT Officer will be tasked with administering Power BI services and managing data connectivity between various data sources and Power BI dashboards, making this position integral to ADB's data-driven decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate IT Officer (Database & ERP) include:
  • Installing, setting up, and managing MS SQL Server instances in both on-premises and virtualized environments.
  • Managing SQL Server security, including user permissions, roles, and encryption protocols.
  • Setting up and managing backup and recovery procedures for SQL Server, including those hosted on Azure Virtual Machines and SQL Server PaaS.
  • Providing technical support for multiple applications that utilize MS SQL Server, such as Enterprise Project Management server, Forex, Helpdesk, and Cafeteria POS systems.
  • Optimizing database performance through indexing, query tuning, and resource monitoring.
  • Applying patches, updates, and upgrades to maintain system reliability and compliance.
  • Deploying and managing Azure SQL Database and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
  • Enhancing Azure SQL Database performance using tools like Azure Monitor and SQL Analytics.
  • Administering Power BI service and Power BI Report Server, managing workspaces, datasets, dataflows, and report publishing processes. 1
  • Configuring data gateways for secure connectivity between on-premises SQL Server, Azure SQL, and other data sources with Power BI. 1
  • Monitoring usage, performance, and license compliance using Power BI Admin Portal and audit logs. 1
  • Troubleshooting connectivity issues between data sources and Power BI dashboards/reports.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Associate IT Officer (Database & ERP) position include:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced training in database administration is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in MS SQL and Power BI administration.
  • Proven experience in the administration, installation, maintenance, and tuning of various versions of MS SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2022).
  • Proficiency in Azure SQL management, including familiarity with Azure Portal, Azure CLI, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Knowledge of Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Monitor, and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Strong understanding of Power BI administration, including DAX, Power Query, and gateway setup.
  • Experience with database migration, design, optimization, and security best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English. 1

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Associate IT Officer (Database & ERP) position must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering. Advanced training in database administration is highly desirable, as it equips candidates with the necessary skills to manage complex database systems effectively.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in MS SQL and Power BI administration. Additional Notes:
This appointment is open to both internal and external applicants and is funded by a temporary funding source, which means that the renewal of the appointment is subject to the availability of funding. The position is a fixed-term appointment with the option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years or until the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes first. After the initial period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for an additional 3 years based on various factors, including the need for the specific skills and experience of the staff member, funding availability, and performance. It is important to note that this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
