The UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) and represents the UN Secretary General, ensuring effective coordination and implementation of UN initiatives in the country.

Job Overview:
This internship provides a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain first-hand experience in a dynamic international team while supporting the sustainable development agenda in the Philippines. The intern will assist the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) with programmatic and data analysis, contributing to the UN 2.0 vision and operations on data, innovation, foresight, and behavioral science. The role involves supporting the collection and analysis of datasets relevant to the Philippines 2024-2028 United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, as well as assisting in the standardization of datasets across UN agencies. The intern will also help generate visualizations and dashboards to summarize key trends and support foresight-driven planning, alongside monitoring and evaluating ongoing programs using both quantitative and qualitative data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Data Management and Analysis: Supporting the collection and analysis of datasets for UN reports and decision-making tools, standardizing datasets across UN agencies, generating visualizations and dashboards, and monitoring ongoing programs.
  • Coordination Support: Assisting in organizing hybrid and digitally enabled meetings, preparing actionable documentation from meetings, and maintaining communication channels with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge Management: Preparing briefing notes and background papers, documenting best practices from RCO-led activities, and maintaining the UN Philippines SharePoint for continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:
This internship is open to Filipino citizens only. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Candidates should have a background in public administration, diplomacy, international affairs, development studies, international relations, statistics, data science, or related fields. Familiarity with data analysis tools like Excel is helpful, and knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, or programming languages such as Python or R is a plus but not required.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in relevant fields such as public administration, diplomacy and international affairs, development studies, international relations, statistics, or data science. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, with preference given to those who have completed a graduate program.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a degree program or have recently graduated. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, familiarity with data analysis tools and a strong organizational skill set are beneficial. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to team dynamics is essential.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory. Proficiency in other languages may be considered an asset but is not required for this position.

Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time, unpaid opportunity, requiring interns to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The duration of the internship is flexible, lasting between two to six months, depending on the candidate’s availability, with a tentative start date in January 202
  • The intern will be based in Mandaluyong City, Philippines, and this is primarily an in-person engagement. Remote work arrangements may be considered on an exceptional, day-by-day basis. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The UN does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
