Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position focuses on supporting the State Action Plan on CO2 emissions reduction from international aviation. The intern will work under the supervision of the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Environment and other senior officers within the Environmental Standards Section. The primary expectation from this role is to assist in the development and implementation of innovative approaches that help member states create their action plans for reducing CO2 emissions. This includes maintaining and updating tools and reports, enhancing the quality of ICAO's public webpages, analyzing data from submitted action plans, and supporting data visualization efforts using tools like Power BI and SharePoint. The intern will also be involved in organizing seminars and events related to aviation and the environment, as well as developing outreach materials to communicate ICAO's initiatives effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Proposing innovative approaches to assist States in developing their Action Plans on CO2 emissions reduction.
Maintaining and updating existing tools, portals, and reports to ensure that information provided to ICAO Member States is current and relevant.
Reviewing and updating ICAO public webpages related to action plans and capacity building to enhance content quality and user experience.
Analyzing data and information from submitted Action Plans and updating the database accordingly.
Supporting data collection and visualization using tools such as Power BI and SharePoint.
Assisting the ICAO State Action Plan team in preparing reports and briefings.
Planning, coordinating, and organizing ICAO seminars/events related to aviation and the environment, including necessary follow-up activities.
Developing and disseminating outreach materials such as articles, reports, pamphlets, videos, and PowerPoint presentations related to aviation and the environment.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree program (second-level university degree or higher) in a field related to aviation, environment, aeronautical/aerospace engineering, or computer science. For applicants from countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree is required. Additionally, candidates should possess strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes a graduate degree program in a relevant field such as aviation, environmental science, aeronautical/aerospace engineering, or computer science. Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of the principles related to aviation and environmental issues, as well as the technical skills necessary to support data analysis and visualization efforts. Those pursuing studies in countries with different educational structures should have completed at least four years of full-time university studies.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should ideally have some exposure to environmental issues, aviation policies, or data analysis through academic projects, internships, or relevant coursework. Experience with data visualization tools and familiarity with international aviation standards would be advantageous but not required.
Languages: Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in English are essential for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of a second language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable and would enhance the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The duration of the internship is flexible, ranging from three to six months, with the intern expected to work up to five days a week. Flexible arrangements may be possible to accommodate part-time schedules for eligible students, in accordance with current off-campus work regulations. Interns are not permitted to engage in any other form of employment within ICAO during the internship period and are ineligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for six months following the end of their internship.
