The Air Navigation Bureau (ANB) is a division within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is responsible for providing technical guidance to various governing bodies including the Air Navigation Commission (ANC), the Council, and the Assembly. Established to enhance global aviation safety and efficiency, ANB operates in multiple countries and employs a diverse workforce dedicated to improving air navigation services. The Bureau's work is organized into three main areas: Air Navigation Capacity and Efficiency (AN), Aviation Safety (SAF), and Monitoring and Oversight (MO). ANB plays a crucial role in developing technical studies, proposals for Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), and Procedures for Air Navigation Services (PANS).

Job Overview:
The intern position within the Implementation Support Planning and coordination-section" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Coordination Section (ISPC) of the Air Navigation Bureau is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the development and implementation of an implementation support platform, specifically using Microsoft SharePoint. The intern will be involved in various aspects of project management, including the preparation of project documents, peer review reports, and the identification and monitoring of key performance indicators for implementation support activities. This role requires collaboration with other sections and regional offices, providing a unique opportunity to engage with different facets of the organization. The intern will also assist in creating outreach materials and internal promotion activities, thereby enhancing communication and visibility of the Bureau's initiatives. This position is ideal for students who are looking to gain practical experience in a dynamic international environment while contributing to meaningful projects that support global aviation safety and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief of ISPC, the intern will be responsible for several key tasks:
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of a dedicated implementation support platform using Microsoft SharePoint;
  • Assisting in the preparation of project plans, peer review reports, and project documentation;
  • Identifying and monitoring key performance indicators for implementation support activities;
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and briefings to communicate project progress and outcomes;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of internal promotion activities to enhance the visibility of the Bureau's work;
  • Assisting in the preparation of outreach materials to effectively communicate results to stakeholders;
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, which may include administrative support and coordination with other teams.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Practical experience with collaborative documentation processing tools or work management platforms is desirable. A solid understanding of ICAO's mandate, the aviation sector, or the United Nations system is also beneficial. Additionally, experience in data processing, programming, and web design will be considered an asset. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for success in this role, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be enrolled in at least the first year of studies at a university or equivalent institution, pursuing a degree at the minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent. Relevant fields of study include aviation, law, science, engineering, diplomacy, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial as it provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of international aviation and the operations of ICAO.

Experience:
While specific work experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates are expected to have some familiarity with the aviation sector or international organizations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and any practical experience in collaborative tools or project management will be advantageous. The internship is designed for students who are looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting, and thus, prior internships or volunteer work in related fields will be viewed favorably.

Languages:
Fluency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking abilities, is essential for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of a second language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable but not mandatory. This multilingual capability can enhance communication within the diverse environment of ICAO and facilitate interactions with various stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The duration of the internship ranges from two to six months, with the expectation that the intern will work five days a week on a full-time basis. Interns are not permitted to engage in any other form of employment within ICAO during their internship period. Furthermore, they will not be eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for six months following the end of their internship.
