Job Overview:
The position of Praktikant*in involves supporting the EU project aimed at promoting deforestation-free agricultural supply chains. The intern will play a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating project activities, managing knowledge, and providing general project support. The intern will be involved in annual reporting to the BMZ, EU Commission, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assisting in the coordination, drafting, and proofreading of reports, as well as conducting plausibility checks on data inputs. Additionally, the intern will support the implementation of cross-country knowledge management activities, including the coordination and design of newsletters, maintaining distribution lists, and preparing for various knowledge exchange events. The role also includes developing targeted knowledge products for external project representation and conducting occasional research on deforestation-free supply chains, payments for ecosystem services, and gender-transformative approaches in international cooperation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting in the annual reporting process for the project, which involves coordinating, drafting, and proofreading reports for submission to the BMZ, EU Commission, and Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Supporting the implementation of cross-country knowledge management activities, including the coordination and design of newsletters, maintaining distribution lists, and preparing for knowledge exchange events.
  • Developing targeted knowledge products for the external representation of the project.
  • Conducting research on relevant topics such as deforestation-free supply chains, payments for ecosystem services, and current political developments in partner countries.
  • Providing organizational and technical support in daily operations, including creating and revising presentations and documenting work meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in a relevant study program related to development work, such as International Relations, Political Science, Development Economics, Agricultural, Forestry, or Nutritional Sciences, and should be at least in their 5th semester. A strong interest in international agricultural supply chains, forest and environmental protection, and gender approaches in international cooperation is essential. Candidates should possess excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a high degree of intercultural competence, reliability, and thoroughness. The ability to work well in a team, be well-organized, communicative, meticulous, and capable of working independently under guidance is crucial. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, is required, along with knowledge or initial experience in development cooperation or regional experience.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in a relevant degree program that focuses on development work. This could include fields such as International Relations, Political Science, Development Economics, Agricultural Sciences, Forestry, or Nutritional Sciences. Candidates should ideally be in their 5th semester or higher, demonstrating a commitment to their studies and a strong foundation in the relevant subject matter.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience or familiarity with development cooperation, particularly in areas related to agricultural supply chains and environmental protection. While specific prior work experience may not be mandatory, any internships or volunteer work in related fields will be considered advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and a willingness to engage with complex topics related to deforestation and sustainable agriculture.

Languages:
Fluent German language skills are mandatory, along with very good English language proficiency in both spoken and written forms. These language skills are essential for effective communication within the team and for the preparation of reports and knowledge products. Additional language skills may be considered a plus but are not mandatory.

The internship is full-time and will take place from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 202
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a study program or in a training course that requires an internship as an integral part of the curriculum. The internship is only available to those whose graduation date is no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. The monthly intern compensation is €2,205.04 (gross).
