The intern will work under the direct supervision of the IRH Policy Specialist on Human Rights, Rule of Law, Justice, and Security. The role involves drafting communication products such as infographics, social media messages, and policy briefs, as well as supporting the organization of virtual meetings and outreach events. The intern will gain valuable experience in the UNDP's mission to strengthen the rule of law and promote human rights, contributing to the organization's efforts in addressing the challenges faced by the region of Europe and Central Asia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Providing research support in the areas of rule of law, human rights, security, and justice.
Drafting communication products such as infographics, social media messages, leaflets, issue briefs, and short policy pieces.
Supporting the virtual organization of meetings and online events involving UNDP staff and external practitioners, including conferences, workshops, and publication launches.
Assisting in the organization of partner engagement and outreach events, such as webinars, podcasts, and talks, along with related follow-up activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program) or in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree).
Have recently graduated with a university degree in legal studies, human rights, international relations, social sciences, public policy, or related disciplines.
Demonstrated strong interest and academic background in human rights, justice, security, and rule of law issues.
Familiarity with the rule of law and human rights issues in Eastern Europe and Central Asia is an advantage.
Experience in research on human rights issues is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes:
Enrollment in a postgraduate degree program or final year of a bachelor’s degree program in relevant fields such as legal studies, human rights, international relations, social sciences, or public policy.
Recent graduates must start the internship within one year of graduation, ensuring that they are up-to-date with current academic knowledge and practices.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a demonstrated interest and academic background in human rights, justice, security, and rule of law issues. Familiarity with the specific challenges and contexts of Eastern Europe and Central Asia is advantageous, as is any prior research experience related to human rights.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing, research, and analytical skills. Knowledge of Russian is considered an advantage, enhancing the intern's ability to engage with a broader range of materials and stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes: The internship is structured to last a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months. Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity. It is important for candidates to arrange their own visa and residence documents well in advance. Interns are responsible for their own financial arrangements, including subsistence, travel, and accommodation costs. Selected candidates must submit proof of their education status and valid medical and life/accident insurance prior to the interview.
