Job Overview: This position involves consulting for the construction of a predictive model for forest fires in high Andean ecosystems and paramo areas. The consultant will utilize environmental parameters and spectral indices obtained from remote sensing technologies to develop this model. The role requires a strong understanding of environmental science, data analysis, and machine learning techniques. The consultant is expected to deliver a comprehensive predictive model that can be used for early warning systems and resource management in the context of climate change and environmental conservation. The position is critical for enhancing the understanding of fire dynamics in sensitive ecosystems and contributing to effective management strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough analysis of environmental parameters that influence forest fire occurrences in high Andean ecosystems.
Develop a predictive model using machine learning techniques that incorporates data from remote sensing.
Collaborate with local stakeholders and experts to gather relevant data and insights.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations on the findings and methodologies used in the model development.
Implement the model in a user-friendly format for stakeholders to utilize in fire management strategies.
Provide training and support to local authorities on how to use the predictive model effectively.
Ensure that all work is completed within the specified 90-day assignment period and meets the quality standards set by UNDP.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
A professional degree in engineering sciences such as civil, environmental, or forestry engineering.
A Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, Hydraulic Resources, or Climate Change is preferred.
Proven expertise in data analysis, climate change, machine learning, and hydrological simulations.
Familiarity with early warning systems and water resource management is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a professional degree in engineering sciences, specifically in fields related to environmental, civil, or forestry engineering. Additionally, a Master's degree in relevant areas such as Environmental Sciences, Hydraulic Resources, or Climate Change is required to ensure a strong theoretical foundation and practical understanding of the subject matter.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of specific work experience is required, counted from the issuance of the professional card. This experience should be directly related to data analysis, climate change, machine learning, or tools for measurement in insurance, hydrological simulations, early warning systems, water resources, or predictive modeling. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully applying their skills in real-world scenarios.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in English or other languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: The assignment period for this consultancy is set for ninety (90) days.
