Job Overview: The Driver / Protocol Liaison position is crucial for the smooth operation of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Monrovia, Liberia. The incumbent will be responsible for safely driving RCO vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo goods, including the delivery of parcels and documents. This role requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including staff from embassies, ministries, consulates, international organizations, and NGOs. The position also involves ensuring the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, which includes checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and performing minor repairs. The Driver / Protocol Liaison will also be tasked with logging fuel consumption and maintenance records, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents, and applying good judgment in the context of assignments given. Overall, this position is integral to the operational efficiency of the UN RCO and contributes to the organization's mission of supporting development priorities in Liberia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver / Protocol Liaison will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel; transporting general cargo goods; making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and various institutions such as ministries and embassies; making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers; collecting goods from customs while adhering to regulations; meeting official personnel at the airport; dealing effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors; maintaining the assigned vehicles by checking essential fluids and performing minor repairs; logging fuel consumption and maintenance activities; reporting any damage or loss of vehicle tools; ensuring compliance with safety regulations in case of accidents; and performing other duties as assigned by the Team Leader.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, a minimum of two years of continuous driving experience with a safe driving record is required. The ideal candidate should have experience driving a variety of vehicle makes and models, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience working with the United Nations or other international organizations is considered desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational standards and expectations of such entities.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a minimum of a high school diploma or completion of secondary school. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with the role and for ensuring effective communication and interaction with various stakeholders.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of continuous driving experience, which should include a proven safe driving record.
