Job Overview:
The consultant will lead a Training of Trainers (ToT) program focused on the SASA! methodology, which aims to enhance the capacity of local civil society organizations, community leaders, and program staff in Liberia. The SASA! approach is designed to engage communities in critically examining power dynamics and fostering positive behavioral change to prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG). The consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive methodological approach, adapting training materials to the local context, and delivering a culturally responsive training program. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable pool of qualified trainers who can implement and scale the SASA! methodology within and beyond the target communities, contributing to long-term violence prevention efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
  • Methodological Planning: Develop a comprehensive methodological approach and submit an Inception Report outlining the strategy, timeline, and expected deliverables.
  • Curriculum Adaptation: Review and adapt existing SASA! training materials to align with Liberia's cultural context and the objectives of the Spotlight Initiative.
  • Training Delivery: Design and facilitate a participatory ToT program covering all phases of the SASA! approach, utilizing adult-learning methodologies.
  • Post-Training Support: Administer assessments to measure knowledge retention and provide ongoing mentorship to trained facilitators.
  • Reporting: Submit detailed reports on the training process, participant performance, and recommendations for future capacity-building efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Health, International Development, or a related field. They should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in gender-based violence prevention, community mobilization, or social norm change programming. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of experience in designing and facilitating Training of Trainers workshops using participatory methodologies, particularly the SASA! approach. Experience working with community-based organizations and local government structures is essential, preferably in Liberia or similar contexts. Certification as a Technical Support Provider or Master Trainer for the SASA! methodology is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Health, or International Development is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the methodologies employed in community mobilization and violence prevention.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the field of gender-based violence prevention, community mobilization, or social norm change programming. Candidates should have a proven track record of at least five years in designing and facilitating Training of Trainers workshops, particularly using participatory methodologies like SASA!. Experience in working with community-based organizations and local government structures is essential, ideally within the context of Liberia or similar environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is critical for training delivery and collaboration with various stakeholders. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.
