Job Overview:
The Statistics and Monitoring Officer position at UNICEF involves significant responsibilities in setting standards for program performance planning and monitoring. The officer will support the preparation of the integrated monitoring and evaluation plan (IMEP) and assist in decentralized data collection, analysis, and reporting. This role is crucial in networking, partnerships, and knowledge sharing, particularly in a context where UNICEF collaborates with various stakeholders to enhance Public Financing for Children (PF4C) and advance child rights. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Setting standards for program performance planning and monitoring to ensure effective implementation of UNICEF's initiatives.
  • Supporting the preparation of the integrated monitoring and evaluation plan (IMEP) to align with UNICEF's strategic objectives.
  • Assisting in decentralized data collection, analysis, and reporting to provide accurate and timely information for decision-making.
  • Supporting UN Volunteers (UNVs) working at county and national levels in their data collection, analysis, and reporting efforts.
  • Engaging in networking, partnerships, and knowledge sharing to enhance collaboration and improve program outcomes.
  • Contributing to the development and management of program or project monitoring systems, including indicator tracking and data quality assurance.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing data from multiple sources for use in program planning, performance reviews, and reporting.
  • Supporting the implementation of evaluations, including logistical coordination and preparation of documentation and briefing materials.
  • Ensuring that all activities are aligned with UNICEF's core values and mission, particularly in promoting the rights of every child.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a University Degree in statistics, information management, economics, or a related field. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of post-qualification professional experience in social development, public policy, or international development, with a strong emphasis on data collection, monitoring, and evaluation. Familiarity with information management tools and platforms, such as Excel, KoboToolbox, Power BI, or other data visualization and reporting systems is considered an asset. Relevant experience within the UN system or other international development organizations is also a strong asset. Candidates should demonstrate experience in managing program or project monitoring systems, including indicator tracking and data quality assurance, as well as the ability to analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a University Degree in statistics, information management, economics, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of data management and analysis required for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of post-qualification professional experience in social development, public policy, or international development. Candidates should have a strong emphasis on data collection, monitoring, and evaluation, with demonstrated experience in managing program or project monitoring systems, including indicator tracking and data quality assurance. Relevant experience at the country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset. This multilingual capability can enhance communication and collaboration within diverse teams and with various stakeholders.
