Job Overview:
The Operations Associate/Senior Associate position is designed for a self-motivated and dynamic individual who will play a crucial role within multi-disciplinary project teams. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the effective and efficient planning and execution of significant development projects that align with the IDB's mandate in Belize. The successful candidate will be part of the IDB Country Office in Belize, which is integral to the Country Department for Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. This position involves conducting and coordinating moderately complex research and analysis, providing inputs for project identification and development, and potentially leading projects of moderate complexity. The role also includes advising project teams on execution planning based on international project management standards and actively participating in risk analysis and management planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Operations Associate/Senior Associate include performing activities that require applied technical knowledge and a general understanding of the business area. The individual will conduct and coordinate moderately complex research and analysis, provide inputs into the identification, development, and implementation of projects, programs, studies, or activities, and may lead projects of moderate complexity or scope. The associate will also lead discrete activities in support of larger projects or programs, provide procedural and task guidance to junior staff, effectively utilize IDB tools and methodologies, and identify opportunities for improvement in technical areas. The role requires working under limited supervision, collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team, and advising on project execution planning, including risk analysis and management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in economics, business administration, law, social science, or a similar discipline. Additionally, certification in Project Management (PMP) or other relevant certifications such as ACP, CPA, or CFA is considered an asset. The position requires at least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the administration of projects financed by multilateral development institutions or other external donors. Knowledge of national and IDB procurement policies, norms, or practices, as well as experience in report writing, is a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as economics, business administration, law, social science, or a similar discipline. Candidates with additional certifications in project management or related areas will have an advantage.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience. This experience should preferably be in the administration of projects financed by multilateral development institutions or other external donors, which will provide the necessary background for understanding the complexities of project management in this context.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, while a working knowledge of Spanish is also required. This bilingual capability will facilitate communication and collaboration within the diverse teams and stakeholders involved in the projects.

Additional Notes:
The position is a national staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement. Candidates must be either citizens of Belize or citizens of one of the 48 member countries with residency or a legal permit to work in Belize. Additionally, candidates must not have any family members working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouses.
