Job Overview:
The Project Assistant position at IOM Greece is integral to the successful implementation of a medical project aimed at providing essential medical, nursing, and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services to asylum seekers and beneficiaries of temporary protection. The role involves assisting the National Project Officer and Project Assistant in monitoring and reporting project activities, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, and addressing the needs of vulnerable groups. The Project Assistant will be responsible for conducting vulnerability assessments, managing protection cases, and maintaining comprehensive case files. This position requires collaboration with medical and psychosocial teams, as well as regular communication with beneficiaries to keep them informed about their cases. The Project Assistant will also participate in team meetings to discuss case management and service provision challenges, ensuring that all activities align with IOM's internal rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities related to medical and psychosocial support services for asylum seekers and beneficiaries of temporary protection.
  • Conduct daily monitoring and supervision of service providers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and the needs of beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with medical and psychosocial teams on day-to-day activities requiring their assistance.
  • Keep supervisors informed of any challenges encountered in the field, particularly those needing escalation for medical or psychosocial support.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments for migrants and refugees and address protection needs by referring them to competent agencies for specialized services.
  • Address the needs of vulnerable groups, including women at risk, children at risk, and the elderly, and ensure quality case management.
  • Maintain comprehensive and updated case files for each case undertaken and keep beneficiaries informed about the progress of their cases.
  • Regularly map services on-site and off-site to ensure access for migrants and refugees.

  • Support the organization and participation in regular team meetings to discuss case management and collect feedback on existing risks and challenges. 1
  • Escort beneficiaries to public health facilities when requested by the supervisor. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Social Work from an accredited academic institution.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • A Master’s degree in Social Work is an advantage.
  • A license to practice social work is required.
  • Membership with the Association of Greek Social Workers is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment is beneficial.
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office) is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines is required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Social Work from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A Master’s degree in Social Work is considered an advantage, and candidates must hold a license to practice social work. Membership with the Association of Greek Social Workers would also be beneficial for applicants.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role. Previous experience in providing direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred. Candidates should also have experience working in a multi-cultural environment, which is essential for understanding the diverse needs of the beneficiaries.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek (both written and oral) is mandatory for this position. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the relevant government authorities.
