Job Overview: The position of Strategic Consultant involves providing strategic and analytical support to the Gates Foundation China Country Office, focusing on market landscaping, strategy development, and portfolio management. The consultant will work closely with the CHAI China team and the partner's Health, Innovation, and Partnership (HIP) team to implement impactful health projects in low- and middle-income countries. The role requires a strong analytical mindset, project management skills, and the ability to foster stakeholder relationships. The consultant will be involved in assessing new investment opportunities in maternal and neonatal health, nutrition, and innovative health technologies, contributing to the development of a new product development accelerator.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of the Strategic Consultant include:
Formulating strategies and organizational development plans for a new product development accelerator from inception.
Identifying and assisting in partnership development for maternal and neonatal health initiatives, including innovative solutions for pregnancy health and technologies for malaria vector control.
Conducting desktop analyses, on-site visits, and developing databases and evaluation frameworks to prioritize high-potential investment opportunities.
Performing analyses and creating comprehensive reports to inform the partner's decisions, effectively communicating findings to both internal and external audiences.
Assisting in the design, development, and implementation of project activities.
Maintaining strong integration with the CHAI China team to leverage best practices and knowledge.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in tier-1 management consulting firms or 3 years in boutique healthcare consulting firms, or relevant strategy, research, or business development experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medtech industries. An impact-driven mindset is essential, along with a passion for delivering innovative products to underserved populations. Candidates should possess solid research capabilities, including data analysis and expert interviews, and have sharp business acumen to identify opportunities in complex market dynamics. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate effectively with CEO-level stakeholders.
Educational Background: A preferred educational background includes degrees in public health, medicine, biomedical engineering, business, or related fields. Candidates with exceptionally strong qualifications may be permitted to work remotely from cities in China other than Beijing.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of experience in tier-1 management consulting or 3 years in boutique healthcare consulting, or equivalent experience in strategy, research, or business development within the pharmaceutical or biotech sectors. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (speaking, reading, and writing) also required. Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction in a professional setting.
Additional Notes: The role may require up to 30% travel domestically and internationally. The selection process includes a resume review, a written short case study exercise, and 2-3 rounds of interviews with both CHAI and the partner organization.
