Job Overview:
The Child Protection Officer position is crucial in addressing the needs of unaccompanied minors (UMC) residing in Greece, particularly in the context of the ongoing migrant crisis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing daily care and support to UMC in designated accommodation facilities. This role involves overseeing living conditions, ensuring safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and facilitating access to essential services such as healthcare and education. The officer will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and Program Team Leader, contributing to the overall mission of IOM to provide tailored support and interventions for vulnerable children. The position requires a proactive approach to managing the facility and ensuring that the needs of the UMC are met effectively and compassionately.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of the UMC living conditions, including maintenance, nutrition, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Supervise UMC participation in daily programs and organize monthly feedback meetings.
  • Ensure appropriate escorting of UMC for personal services like healthcare and education.
  • Prepare and implement monthly shift schedules for staff.
  • Coordinate staff duties and ensure effective communication among team members.
  • Conduct regular individual meetings with staff to evaluate performance.
  • Supervise the operation of the complaints mechanism within the facility.
  • Coordinate and supervise volunteers providing services.
  • Manage financial and administrative tasks related to the facility, including supply management and administrative procedures for UMC reception and departure. 1
  • Conduct shifts and be available for on-call night shifts. 1
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited institution in social or humanitarian sciences, with at least two years of certified work experience in child protection, asylum support, or assistance to vulnerable populations. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, particularly within IOM Emergency Accommodation Facilities. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees is advantageous, as is experience in multicultural environments. Candidates should demonstrate strong computer literacy, particularly in standard software applications, and possess a valid driver's license with a minimum of five years of driving experience.

Educational Background:
A university degree from an accredited academic institution is required, preferably in social or humanitarian sciences. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in child protection and social support systems, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to address the needs of unaccompanied minors effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant work experience in child protection, reception of asylum applicants, or providing support to vulnerable individuals. Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within IOM facilities, is highly desirable. Experience working in multicultural settings is also an advantage, as it enhances the candidate's ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.

Languages:
Fluency in Greek is mandatory, along with certified working knowledge of English or French. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly IOM's official languages (English, French, and Spanish), is considered beneficial but not mandatory.
